On 5 April 2024, with the approaching occasion of Eid al-Fitr, the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone held the handover ceremony of food packages to Islamic religious groups in Sierra Leone, meanwhile a seminar of ethnic and religious policy was organized. Ambassador Wang Qing, Minister of Social Welfare Melrose Karminty delivered speeches, while representatives from United Council of Imams, Supreme Islamic Council and other Islamic Religious Groups participated in the ceremony.

In his speech, Ambassador Wang expressed best wishes of Eid al-Fitr to all Muslim friends in Sierra Leones. Ambassador said that the food packages donation was a traditional activity conducted by Chinese Embassy for many years, the main purpose is providing assistance to the families in need and enhancing the traditional friendship between the two countries. Ambassador Wang also systematically introduced the latest progress of China–Sierra Leone cooperation, China’s ethnic and religious policies, and hoped that the majority of Muslims in Sierra Leone would continue to play an active role in promoting mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Melrose Karminty and the representatives of Islamic religious organizations in Sierra Leone thanked the Chinese Embassy for its generous donations for many years, and looked forward to strengthening mutual understanding and friendship with the Chinese side, so as to promote new progress in Sierra Leone-China relations.
