On February 5, 2019, the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone, Counsellor Wang Xinmin briefed Sierra Leonean press on the current situation of the phneumonia outbreak caused by the novel coronavirus and China’s efforts to prevent and control the epidemic, and answered questions. More than 20 friends from the local media attended the beriefing.
Counsellor Wang said that since the outbreak in Wuhan, Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government while putting the safety of people’s lives and health first, have made the prevention and control of novel coronavirus as the top priority and primary task of the Party and the government. The Chinese government has been making an all-out nationwide effort to control and prevent the virus.
Counsellor Wang noted that the Chinese government has been updating and sharing the latest epidemic to the public both in China and the world with openness, transparency and a high sense of responsibility towards global health security, which was lauded by the WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. He said that the Chinese government has been fulfilling its international obligations to address the legitimate concerns of the foreigners in China, including Sierra Leone nationals, in a timely manner so as to protect their safety with a responsible attitude. Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy in SL has been working closely with SL government and Chinese communities in SL on the prevention of any imported case.
Counsellor Wang stressed that under the strong leadership of the CPC with comrade Xi Jinping at its core, and with the extensive understanding and support of the Chinese people and the international communities, the Chinese government has the determination, confidence and ability to win the battle of preventing and controlling the epidemic.
