The Management of City Media Centre on 4 Field Road, Makeni, a media one stop shop that houses HOPE FM:93.3, Provincial Times Newspaper, and the Stanley Media Consultancy, wishes to express profound gratitude and appreciation to our numerous callers, messages of sympathy, prayers, hope and assurances received from family members, friends, colleagues and partners, following the devastating thunderstorm that seriously affected our institution in the early morning hours of Thursday, 1st September 2022.
Immediately after the incident, our technical team conducted an impact assessment of the damages caused and produced a report suggesting that 82% of our critical equipment were affected by the water.
MAGNITUDE OF THE DAMAGE
After post disaster test on the said equipment, it was discovered that only about 17% could be repaired, whilst the remaining 65% were damaged beyond repairs. These includes 600watts transmitter, two mixers, six desktops used for recording, editing and production, eight portable studio speakers, two Apple laptops used for streaming on Radio Garden, our websites, etc.
Critical documents relating to our work, plus tens of novels and media literatures were also destroyed by rain water. The roof and ceiling of the affected building hosting our office needs urgent exclusive overhaul. In terms of monetary value for the loss, an estimate of over three hundred thousand New Leones was projected after window shopping.
WHEN DO WE HOPE TO BE BACK ON AIR?
The loss incurred by us is so huge that we cannot hastily project a definite date, but it will certainly run into weeks, if not months, if only left with our current economic situation to handle.
We are weighing our options on possible temporal relocation if we can secure key equipment.
CALLS OF HOPE
We are in receipt of calls from very concerned media leaders like Mr. Randsford Wright of IRN, Mr Kelvin Lewis of Awoko Newspaper, Commissioner Mustapha M. K. Sesay, Prezo Monk and Mr. Philip Neville of Media One Centre, around consideration for some sort of assistance.
We also wish to acknowledge the donation of USD100 by one of our colleagues, Pious Lawrence. Another private citizen, Mr Robert Masa Yelli also called us to enquire with us how he could help. Our doors are open to all those kind-hearted people who may wish to come to our aid in difficult times like this.
