The Collage of Digital Excellence (CODE) has last Saturday 19th November 2022 trained journalists from the print and electronic media on digital rights reporting in Sierra Leone, the college’s Congo Cross’ office in Freetown.
Speaking to journalists during the training, CODE tutor, Osman Karim described that the free online courses are aimed at boosting journalists’ careers carrying out their works, and enhance their digital media skills.
He stated that these training courses will also guide journalists through ethical responsibilities and public duties on the use of the internet, opinions, stories or other forms of writings to avoid conflicts of interest.
Osman Karim said to be a good researcher, journalists most know how to use the internet, as this generation is fast moving to digital world. He added that the training will also help journalists on their daily routines of reporters.
“As a journalists, you must have an e-mail addresses to serve as a purpose for sending or receiving news items to be published”, he said”, and pointed out that the main criteria for journalists’ workflows includes typing skills, the use of the keyboard, mouse and others to enable journalists communicate effectively via e-mail platforms.
Participants thanked the management of CODE for providing the opportunity at the right time as when the country approaches the multi-tier elections. They loudly acknowledged the highly digitalized learning environment provided them by CODE.
