Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Court No1in Freetown has on Wednesday 26th October 2022, granted bail to ex- military officer Rtd Col Joseph Sheku Jalloh and six others with the sum of NLe 500,000 for the alleged Sambia Bendugu by elections violence matter.
The bail request came after defence lawyer, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara renewed his previous application stating that the accused persons have spent 137 days in prison.
Lawyer Kamara pledged with the bench to use his unfettered desecration and grant bail to the accused persons.
The bail condition read by the magistrate required that the accused to produce two sureties each in like that should be a Sierra Leonean resident in Freetown and should be employing in a recognized institution.
He the condition entail that each of the sureties should have a house in Freetown valued not less than NLe 350,000 with a title deeds attached and a valuation certificate, while the bail bond should be approved by the master and registrar.
The accused Jalloh and six others have been under preliminary investigations for nine counts charges ranging from possession of small arms without licence, carrying offensive weapon, the use of a threatening language, obstruction to riotous conduct all contrary to law.
According to police it was alleged that on Wednesday 8th 2022 at Sambia Bendugu in Tonkolili district in the North-Eastern of Sierra Leone, the first accused Jalloh was found in possession of one small arm to wit short gun without licence weapons to wit cutlass and knife.
On count two the second accused was found carrying offensive weapon. Police also alleged that six and seven accused threatened to burn down the house of the Paramount Chief Bamba Forry Jalloh.
Count seven stated that the fourth accused obstructed the Sierra Leone Police when executing their lawful duties, and count nine added that the accused behaved in a riotous manner. Magistrate Mark Ngegba adjoined the matter to the 3RD November 2022.
