Hon. Justice Mônfred Sesay of the Freetown High Court No.1 last Wednesday 1st February 2023 sentenced Abu-Backarr Sankoh to six months imprisonment at the Male Correctional on Pademba Road. The convict Abu-Backarr appeared before the court on two counts charge, count one conspiracy to commit Larceny from the person, to which he pleaded guilty.
According to the particulars of offence Sankoh on 27th May 2022 in the Western Area of Freetown conspired with other persons unknown to commit a felony to wit larceny from the person.
Count two, Larceny from the person contrary to Section 14 of the Larceny Act 1916.
Particulars of offence also indicate that Sankoh on the 27th of May 2022 at Freetown stole from the person of Mustapha Sesay one Infinix Hot 10 mobile phone valued Two Million Five Hundred Leones (Le 2,500,000) and one I-Phone 8 Plus mobile phone value Eight Million Five Hundred Thousand Leone (Le 8,500,000), all to the total value of Eleven Million (Le 11,000,000), property of Mustapha Sesay.
In her submission prosecutor, lawyer D. Sawyer told the court that the convict, Sankoh was at Ferry Terminal Kissy with another unknown person while the complainant was a passenger bored the ferry.
She told the court that the convict with he’s troupe tried to assist the complainant with his bag, adding that in that process the convict Abu- Sankoh unzipped the bag of the victim and stole one Infinix Hot 10 mobile phone valued Two Million Five Hundred Leones (Le 2,500,000) and one I-Phone 8Plus Mobile phone valued Eight Million Five Hundred Thousand Leone (Le8,500,000), all to the total value of Eleven Million (Le 11,000,000), property of Mustapha Sesay.
She told the court that a lady at the ferry terminal later identified him and he was arrested.
Before he was convicted Abu-Backarr Sankoh pleaded with the judge, saying that he had no relative in Freetown and he was a labourer at the side location. He promised the judge to tamper mercy upon him’’.
Lawyer I. Bangura representing the convict ask the judge for mercy, saying that the convict is a young man and a first-time offender.
