Following the shallow investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission ACC’s Boss, Francis Ben Keilfa against the Clerk of Hon Paran Umar Tarawallie, has on Monday 5 August, 2024 resumed duty at his office as the Clerk in the Sixth Parliament despite the huge corruption scandals against him and his wife, Abibatu Tarawallie.
Though President Bio promised to fight corruption, it appears that the President and his team are now working contrarily to their promise.
It is the same President Bio that has reinstated Hon. Umar Paran Tarawallie despite irrefutable corruption scandals against him and his wife.
It is also a clear manifestation and indication that President Bio is paying a leap service in the fight against corruption.
According to a statement by the ACC after immense public outcry, both the Clerk of Parliament – Hon Umar Paran Tarawally, and his wife Abibatu Paran Tarawally were being investigated for corruption and abuse of office.
“The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) wishes to inform the general public that it had commenced investigation into Corruption allegations against the Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Paran Umar Tarawally and his wife, Mrs. Abibatu Tarawally.
“The Commission is investigating allegations that the Clerk of Parliament employed his wife without due process and that since the said employment, Mrs Abibatu Tarawally has not been reporting for duties, but received salaries. This raises serious questions of Conflict of Interest and abuse of position by the Clerk of Parliament.
“While investigations continue, as a condition of her bail, Mrs. Abibatu Tarawally refunded one hundred and thirty thousand NLe131,000 from the one hundred and fifty-six thousand NLe156, 000 she received as salary for 10 months and she was on payroll, according to records obtained from the Account-General. Meanwhile, Hon. Paran Umar Tarawally and Mrs. Abibatu Tarawally are on bail pending further investigation.” ACC’s press release read in part.
It could be recalled that on countless times, the ACC has been accused of double standards in dealing with cases involving the SLPP government officials and ministers and misrepresenting the facts of the case to minimise the gravity of the crime.
During the investigation, it was clear that a payslip shows that Hon. Tarawally’s wife had been bogusly employed to work in Parliament and at the same time receiving state funds falsified by her husband for more than the ten months alleged by the ACC.
The reinstatement of Hon. Paran Tarawallie by President Bio as a substantive clerk of Parliament, it shows that the ruling party is not ready and willing to fight corruption.
