In 1975, at Fourah Bay College, Sierra Leone, I founded a newspaper I decided to name COCORIOKO. If you look at the name, you can realize that the spelling was uniquely contrived. Instead of using a C, we used a K in the tail end of the ” Co ” sound. This was done to make the name unique.
My newspaper has been in existence for 50 years.
It has come to my attention that a group of individuals in the APC are criminally using the name of the newspaper ( WITH the same spelling as ours’ ) to run a platform called the COCORIOKO MORNING COFFEE.
WE at the Cocorioko object to the name being used by MORNING COFFEE because we and the USERS do not belong to the same organization and we might not share the same values and opinions on issues. The unauthorized use of our newspaper’s name with the same spelling by another group is therefore inimical to the interests and goals of our newspaper . It will confuse readers and listeners who know that we are not involved in the rifts, infighting and bedlam presently going on. We do not belong to any faction or cabal. It is therefore criminal for somebody to steal our newspaper’s name to attack personalities within the APC.
There are millions of names in the world that the owners of the platform should have used. But if they are so obsessed with the name, they should have spelt their own Cocorioko differently to show that they are a different organization.
We will consult our lawyers for punitive redress if the MORNING COFFEE team does not stop using our newspaper’s name with the same spelling.
These are some of the criminal behaviors that the SLPP would use to wrongly tarnish the name of our beloved party. How can you hijack the name of somebody ‘s newspaper without their consent? Is this not lawlessness, criminality and a moronic behavior?
While exploring the possibilities of legal remedies, we want to inform the general public that the so- called COCORIOKO MORNING COFFEE has nothing to do with the famous COCORIOKO NEWSPAPER, owned and published by REV. WILFRED LEEROY KABS- KANU . WE DO NOT EVEN KNOW THE PEOPLE RUNNING THE MORNING COFFEE.
We will pursue this matter until we get legal redress .
