As the dividing rule is presently a huge crisis at the disability Commission and the Sierra Leone Association on Disability Issues (SLUDI), will likely manifest the mammoth failure of President Bio-led government to address disability situation and even worsen their ongoing vulnerability of persons with disabilities in the country.
The recent appointment of Mr. Brima Abdulia Sheriff has the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities NCPD Chairman under the current challenging dispensation in an atmosphere where there is a disregard for the rule of law, exploitation against persons with disabilities, fragmentations, malice, hatred, poverty, discrimination and all those sad odds. “How is he going to serve and get Mr. Bio to score sustainable development goals in the disability sector as we shall soon head for elections and eventual end of Bio’s leadership. Or is it only what he may get with Melrose Karminty, the current Minister of Social Welfare that he will care about for this remaining 2 years or less?
Sources say the unproduced United Nations Development Programme – UNDP India Fund that is at play and wanting to rather destroy what put PWDs together is currently at risk if given now under the current dangerous and misappropriation agenda atmosphere. The donors will likely catch up with reality of planned to embezzle their funds and mindful that their funds and generosity would rather add more our disabilities and even making the beneficiaries getting inabilities to get justice on their national disability legal instrument is equally disabled and will no longer think in common because of greed and arrogance of those said to leaders of the proposed funding.
If the SLPP government of President Bio is smart and have love for the vulnerable population living with disabilities and long term stress owing to disadvantages, they should get the ongoing situation on table for peaceful and sustainable solution in other to scare appreciable grade in the Disability sector during this 2 years plus limited term desire for consolidated legacies for his people living with disabilities.
The person in question who leadership was violently rooted from office is a unique man in the field of disability, political and human rights and the constitutional issue and hand is not a funny stuff to discuss at both national and international levels.
Despite the current NCPD Boss who many disable community describe as a purported NCPD Chairman talking about ‘breaking barriers’ when his unlawful and misleading appointment is a barrier to disability justice and the Ministry of Social Welfare is the greatest economic and social barrier, how can he deal with such barriers.?
However, report say the commissioner/Chairman is going into someone house through the window, and later declared that he will deal with the thief when his status is highly questionable to many disability organizations in Sierra Leone.
In the smailar vein, the Minister of Social Welfare, Melrose Karminty, revealed to journalists in a press conference on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the Mitta Conference Hall, Youyi Building in Freetown that she has secured nearly $1 Million US Dollars in funding in New York to support Empowerment programs, adding that the project would targeting PWD’s at all levels.
“The initiative includes building and renovating training centres across the country to discourage street begging and promote skill building amongst disable persons,” she suggested.
Though, some physical challenge communities and organisations at home and aboard are strongly disappointed with the bad misuse of the Disability Act, 2011, especially the ongoing issue that has to do with the appointment and handpicked of the present disable Chairman/ Commission of NCPD.
