Prof. Dr Ibrahim Bangura, one of the prominent flagbearer aspirants of the All People’s Congress (APC), has held a face-to-face engagement with APC Members of Parliament, urging them to prioritise unity, love and peaceful cooperation as the party prepares for the crucial 2028 elections.
During the meeting, Dr Bangura highlighted that the APC’s ability to reclaim national leadership depends largely on the collective efforts of its members. He noted that the party’s past successes were built on strong internal cohesion, mutual respect and a shared commitment to progress. According to him, rekindling those values is essential if the party is to regain public confidence and present itself as a credible alternative to the current administration.
Dr Bangura stressed that unity within the APC should not be seen as a slogan but a practical responsibility for every member, especially its lawmakers. He reminded the MPs that their influence, visibility and leadership place them at the heart of national politics, making their cooperation vital to the party’s rebuilding process. He encouraged them to put aside personal interests and work selflessly for the wider goal of strengthening the party’s structure and preparing for victory.
He further noted that internal divisions, mistrust and political infighting have the potential to derail the APC’s momentum if not properly addressed. He called for honest dialogue, reconciliation where necessary and a renewed focus on party growth rather than individual ambitions. Dr Bangura maintained that love for the party and loyalty to its ideals should guide all decisions ahead of the forthcoming convention.
The flagbearer hopeful expressed confidence that with a united front, the APC can successfully mobilise its base, expand its support and present a convincing message to citizens across the country. He told MPs that Sierra Leoneans are looking for strong leadership, stability and development, and the APC must position itself as the party capable of delivering those expectations.
The engagement ended with a call to action, urging APC MPs to lead by example through discipline, cooperation and unwavering dedication to the party’s goals. Dr Bangura reaffirmed his commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure that the APC enters the 2028 elections as a united and formidable force.
His address has been widely viewed as a timely reminder of the crucial role party unity will play in shaping the APC’s future and its chances of returning to governance.
