One of Sierra Leone’s most prominent social media news platforms, SL News Blog, names Dr. Ibrahim Bangura the leading contender to become the flagbearer for the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party ahead of the February 2026 National Delegates Conference and the 2028 general elections.
In a post published Tuesday, July 15, 2025, SL NewsBlog noted that based on extensive internal and external assessments done so far, Dr. Bangura currently holds a 70 percent chance of clinching the party’s top position, positioning him as the most promising candidate to lead the APC into the next national polls.
“Based on the available information, both internally and externally, it appears highly likely that Dr. Ibrahim Bangura will be the next Standard Bearer of the All People’s Congress Party,” the platform wrote.
Dr. Bangura, a respected academic and governance expert, has steadily risen in popularity within party ranks and among grassroots supporters for his strong leadership qualities, policy-driven mind-set, and reputation for integrity. His name has featured prominently in recent political discussions, especially among younger APC supporters and reform-minded party members seeking a fresh direction.
According to SL NewsBlog, Dr. Bangura’s track record of service and professionalism has resonated well with both party delegates and the broader public. The blog cited his consistent engagement with citizens, clear political messaging, and clean public image as key reasons behind his growing momentum.
“Dr. Bangura represents a new wave of leadership in Sierra Leone’s opposition politics. He is seen as competent, unifying, and capable of restoring confidence in the APC ahead of 2028,” one of APC supporter noted.
The APC, which lost the Presidency in 2018, is currently navigating internal restructuring and preparing for its next national convention, expected to determine its 2028 Presidential flagbearer. With several high-profile figures eyeing the position, Dr. Bangura’s rising profile suggests a possible shift in the party’s strategic direction.
Political analysts say the endorsement by SL NewsBlog, a platform known for shaping online political discourse in Sierra Leone, could boost Dr. Bangura’s visibility and credibility among undecided party stakeholders. While the APC has not yet officially opened nominations, speculation continues to grow as the party looks to reclaim power.
The platform’s public rating of Dr. Bangura as the “best and leading candidate” is likely to spark more engagement within the APC and intensify debates over the future of the party’s leadership.
As the road to 2028 unfolds, all eyes remain on the APC’s internal developments and whether Dr. Ibrahim Bangura can translate his online popularity and credibility into decisive support at the party’s National Delegates’ Conference.
