Dr. Kaifala Marah, a prominent member of Sierra Leone’s current main opposition All People’s Congress party (APC) party, recently visited the South-Southeast regions of Bo, Kenema, and Kailahun, where he took a message of hope and unity, alongside generous donations of hundreds of bags of rice and sugar to both Muslims and Christians observing Ramadan and Lent.

His visit was met with overwhelming warmth and support, as party leaders and constituents in these key regions expressed optimism for his future leadership in the upcoming 2028 elections.

Dr. Marah’s charitable gesture was not only a symbol of his deep commitment to the well-being of Sierra Leoneans but also an opportunity to connect with the people, understand their struggles, and promote a vision for the country’s future.

The donations, which aimed to ease the burdens of families during the holy seasons, were part of his broader efforts to reconnect with communities across the country and offer tangible support amidst challenging economic conditions.

In his speeches during the visits, Dr. Marah did not shy away from addressing Sierra Leone’s current economic struggles. He emphasized the urgency of reclaiming power in the 2028 elections, stressing that the nation cannot afford to continue on its current trajectory. Drawing from his experience as the country’s former Finance Minister, Dr. Marah pointed to what he described as a “compromise of leadership” that has exacerbated Sierra Leone’s challenges. He argued that the lack of strong, focused leadership has hindered the country’s growth and prosperity, and it is now time for a change.

“We cannot continue down this path. The situation demands that we come together and work strategically for a better future,” Dr. Marah said. “The APC must be ready for the 2028 elections, with a clear plan that prioritizes the needs of the people and the future of our nation.”

The opposition leader’s message resonated with many who attended the gatherings, as he urged unity within the party, particularly from the grassroots level to the national stage. “Serious preparation is needed for the next election,” he remarked, “and that preparation must begin now. We need to focus on grassroots mobilization, strategic planning, and ensuring that our leaders are chosen based on merit, not sentiment.”

Dr. Marah’s call for merit-based leadership was a central theme throughout his visit. Reflecting on his achievements as Finance Minister, he reminded Sierra Leoneans of the progress the country made during his tenure and how effective leadership can steer the nation toward sustainable development. He urged the APC to look beyond personal interests and political compromises and instead focus on selecting leaders who are truly equipped to lead the country out of its current economic woes.

“As we look to the future, we must remember that the leadership we choose must be grounded in integrity, experience, and a genuine commitment to the people of Sierra Leone,” he stated.

Dr. Marah’s remarks were met with enthusiasm from local party leaders, who expressed their confidence in his ability to lead the APC to victory in 2028. They praised his vision for the country and his focus on addressing the nation’s most pressing challenges. Many acknowledged that his leadership could be the catalyst for much-needed change.

As Sierra Leone looks toward the 2028 elections, Dr. Kaifala Marah’s call for unity, strategic planning, and merit-based leadership has struck a chord with many who are eager for a positive shift in the country’s political landscape. His visit to the South-Southeast region served as both a reflection of his dedication to the APC and a powerful reminder that the time for change is now.

For many, Dr. Marah is seen as the leader capable of steering Sierra Leone towards a brighter future.
