In a bold and confident declaration, senior All People’s Congress (APC) politician Dr Richard Konteh has assured party members and the people of Sierra Leone that the 2028 general elections will be free, fair, and transparent under his leadership. Speaking with conviction, he promised a decisive and honourable victory for the APC — one that truly reflects the will of the people.
Dr Konteh’s assurance comes against the backdrop of lingering frustrations over the highly contested 2023 elections, which many Sierra Leoneans believe were marred by irregularities and malpractice. Addressing these concerns, he pledged that such events will not be repeated.
“The 2028 elections will be different,” he said firmly. “No one will be allowed to undermine the democratic process. The people’s votes will count, and the outcome will be a true reflection of their
Dr Konteh emphasized that his commitment is not just to the APC, but to the democratic rights of all Sierra Leoneans. He underscored the fundamental principle that the power to choose the nation’s leaders lies solely in the hands of the people.
“Our citizens have the constitutional right to vote and to have those votes counted honestly,” he noted. “As a leader, I will defend that right with everything in my power. The voice of the people must be respected.”
He went on to declare that the controversial 2023 elections would be remembered as the last time the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) would be able to manipulate the electoral process. “Never again will Sierra Leoneans have to question whether their votes matter. In 2028, elections will be run with integrity, transparency, and fairness at the core,” he added.
Moreover, Dr Konteh’s confidence stems from his experience and background in managing complex electoral processes. Having played key roles in previous political campaigns and governance initiatives, he expressed certainty that his leadership will close the door on any attempts to rig the upcoming polls.
“I have the experience and the leadership capacity to ensure that the will of the people prevails. The SLPP will have no opportunity to tamper with the process because every measure will be taken to safeguard the vote,” he assured.
He stressed that his approach will involve not only vigilance on elections day but also comprehensive preparations in the months leading up to the polls. This, he said, will include strengthening party structures, mobilizing grassroots support, and monitoring every stage of the electoral process.
Beyond electoral reforms, Dr Konteh’s message carried a tone of optimism for the future of Sierra Leone. He expressed confidence that the APC, under his leadership, would unite the country and restore public faith in the democratic process.
“The people of Sierra Leone deserve leaders who respect their choices and work in their best interests. Our mission in 2028 will be to give them that assurance and to deliver a government that is accountable, transparent, and focused on development,” he said.
His speech was met with strong applause from APC supporters, many of whom expressed renewed enthusiasm for the upcoming elections. For them, Dr Konteh’s words were not just political promises but a rallying call to protect democracy and secure a better future.
Conclusively, with three years to go before the polls, the political atmosphere in Sierra Leone is already heating up. Dr Konteh’s early and assertive stance sets the tone for what could be one of the most fiercely contested elections in recent history. His vow to deliver a clean and fair victory for the APC has raised expectations and placed the spotlight on the party’s readiness to challenge the SLPP.
As the countdown to 2028 begins, Dr Konteh’s message is clear: the days of electoral malpractice are numbered, and Sierra Leone is ready for a new chapter in its democratic journey.
“In 2028, the people will speak,” he concluded. “And their voice will be the final authority.”
