Driver Faces Court for Larceny

Andrew Lamin Kamara a driver on Wednesday, 4th December, 2024, made his first appearance before magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No. 2 on a count charge of Larceny by Servant Contrary to section 17 (1) (a) of the Larceny Act 1916.

The police charge sheet indicated that on Monday 18th November, 2024 at Kamasasa Village in the Kambia District in the north west Region of the Republic of Sierra Leone, being a servant employed by Alhaji Amadu Sow, stole one white colour Toyota Land Cruiser Vehicle with registration number AWX 565 valued Sixteen Thousand United State Dollars ($16,000) equivalent to Three Hundred and Thirty Five Thousand Five Hundred and Twenty Leones (NLe 335, 512,00) property of Alhaji Amadu Sow.

When the charge was read and explained to the accused person no plea was given.

The accused person was not legally represented

The state prosecutor 8235 led in prosecution witness number one Musa Barrie who is a businessman knows the accused in the dock as the driver of his uncle and recalled what happened on the 16th November, 2024, when the complainant called and told him that the he did not see the accused and his vehicle.

Musa revealed that he sent Alpha Abubakarr Sow to go to the toll gates and asked for the vehicle and they were told that he crossed on Saturday, but had not yet returned. He furthered that they went in search of the vehicle and found it at a cheek point at Jendema, adding that, they were then led to Bo Police Station where he reported the matter and they were transferred to Freetown  where he made a statement to the police. That all.

The witness was cross examined by the accused.

Meanwhile, magistrate Bangura refused bail and sent the accused person to remain in custody in the male correctional facility in Freetown.

However, the case has been adjourned to the 11th of December, 2024 for further proceedings.
