Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Ross Road Court No.1 has remanded a driver, Ibrahim Jalloh at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown for allegedly stealing a Bajij kekeh-tricycle with registration number APG 496 valued at thirty thousand New Leones (NLe30,000) entrusted to him by Khalilu Mansaray for commercial purpose.
Ibrahim Jalloh arraigned before the court on a count charge of fraudulent conversion contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
The police say the accused, on Sunday 4 December 2022 at Kennedy Street Fourah Bay, in Freetown, fraudulently converted a kekeh-tricycle with the aforesaid registration number valued at thirty thousand Leones.
Led in evidence by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Osman M. Bangura prosecution witness (PW) 1, Khalilu Mansaray who resides at Kennedy Street in Freetown, told the court that he recognised the accused at the abovementioned address, and could recall on Sunday 4 December 2022.
Mr Mansaray continued that on the day in question, he handed over the said tricycle including it life card to the accused. The witness said both of them agreed that the accused should been paying him One Hundred New Leones (NLe100) every day. Initially, he said the accused complied for only two days since then he, the accused was nowhere to be found.
“This prompted me to report the matter to Ross Road Police Station, Habour Division in Freetown. A friend of mine, Saidu Turay gave me information that he saw the accused somewhere. Upon receipt of the information, I contacted police officers, and the accused was apprehended and taken to Ross Road Police Station for questioning,” Mr Mansaray narrated to the bench.
During cross examination by the accused, he suggested to the witness that he handed over the said tricycle to him without its life card. Responding, the witness said he handed over the tricycle to the accused with its life card in question.
The accused was denied bail and remanded at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown. Meanwhile, the matter was adjourned to 24 February 2023.
