During a committee hearing at Committee Room One in the House of Parliament on Tuesday 15 April 2025, the Director General of the Electricity Generation Transmission Commission (EGTC), Ing Milton Ngegbai, admitted that one of his staff is involved in theft, though the name of such a staff was not mentioned.
Ngegbai attempted to defend his staff who was caught by another worker at the Ministry of Energy.
The DG further alluded that indeed one of his staff was caught removing a part from one of the old generator machines used by the commission to help generate and transmit electricity within Freetown.
According to information received, the staff, whose name was not mentioned, was caught red handed .
When the chairman of the committee asked the Director General if he is aware of the alleged theft, Ing. Ngegbai admitted that he is aware of the theft, emphasizing that the staff was found removing a part from an old generator.
Instantly, the chairman, Hon. Kekura Vandi, told the DG that the staff had no right to remove the said part from the machine, even if it was not useable.
The lawmaker asked if action was taken against the said staff who was involved in the theft. But DG Ngegbai was struggling to respond to such a question.
Additionally, the chairman of the Energy Committee confronted the DG regarding the serious allegation of theft of fuel at EGTC; and that the said staff is one of those causing or responsible for electricity problems in the country.
The lawmaker assured the DG that the House is going to investigate the issue thoroughly, adding that no stone would be left unturned in such an investigation.
