The Deputy Minister of Energy,Dr. Eldred Taylor, has described Moyamba district as a shining example of Sierra Leone’s flourishing or burgeoning mini grid space during the official commissioning of a mini grid facility at Rotifunk, Bumpe chiefdom, Moyamba district.
While welcoming the Deputy Minister and his entourage, Paramount Chief of Bumpe Chiefdom, PC Charles B. Caulker, said the facility was a fulfilment of a promise made to his chiefdom by His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio.
He said Bumpe needed such a facility to enhance its status as a Class A Chiefdom, noting that electricity would improve the social and economic lives of his people.
In his keynote address before lighting up the town, Deputy Energy Minister, Dr. Eldred Taylor, said the mini grid at Rotifunk now takes the total number of mini grid sites in Moyamba district to fourteen.
He called on the people to seize the opportunity to improve their livelihoods and implored residents to continue to espouse the values of peace and unity and to own and protect the facility.
Dr. Taylor spoke about a mega energy project called the Southern Corridor that would soon be implemented and that would hugely impact the people of Bumpe. He encouraged the people to pay their bills and to desist from the criminal acts of illegal connections.
A senior chiefdom stakeholder, Mrs. Rosaline Kaimbay, bemoaned the chiefdom’s lack of several basic amenities before the advent of the New Direction administration.
She said President Julius Maada Bio had taken the people of Bumpe seriously and was now making it possible for the chiefdom to realize its fullest development potentials. Mrs. Kaimbay assured that the people would reciprocate President Bio’s love for the chiefdom.
Power Leone’s Liaison Officer, Emmanuel Harding, said Power Leone was engaged in the business of providing electricity to rural communities in West Africa.
He said his company had developed and was operating 30 mini grid sites in rural Sierra Leone. He assured of quality and reliability of services.
