Samuel Bundu who identify himself as the Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu, on Thursday 20th April 2023, made his first appearance before Magistrate Isata Sellu Tucker of the Pademba Road Court No 2 in Freetown, for allegedly defrauding Mohamed Omodu Kamara alias Jagaban over One Hundred million Leones Le100m.
The accused is charged on three (3) counts ranging from conspiracy to defraud contrary to law,
Count 2, obtaining money by false pretences, contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916 and impersonation, contrary to Section 3 of Cap 34 as amended by Sub-Section 4 and 5 of the impersonation and Uniform (Amended) Act 13 1975.
In the particulars of offence, the accused Samuel Bundu on Friday 24th February 2023, at No. 22 Malta Street, Fourah Bay in Freetown, with intent to defraud conspired together with other persons unknown and defrauded Mohamed Omodu Kamara, alias Jagaban the sum of One Hundred and Eighty-Seven million old Leones, with the pretext that he was sent by the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police, which is known to be false.
Count 2, states that the accused on the same date and place, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of One Hundred and Eighty-Seven million Leones by falsely pretending that he was sent by the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police, which is known to be false.
Count 3, states that the accused on the same date and place under the assumed character of the Personal Assistant of the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police, obtained the sum of Forty million old Leones from Mohamed Omodu Kamara alias Jagaban without lawful authority.
The charges were read and explained to the accused person. No plea was taken.
There was also no legal representation for the accused person.
Meanwhile Magistrate Tucker refused the accused bail and sent him to the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown. Assistant Superintendent of police Hawa Bah is prosecuting the matter.
