The Ministry of Information and Civic Education is set to take its flagship Civic Day Series to Mongor, the headquarters of Falaba District, from March 23–24, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to deepen citizens’ engagement and promote inclusive governance across the country.

The two-day event, to be held at the Falaba District Council Hall, will bring together key government ministries, departments and agencies to engage directly with citizens on national development issues.

The Civic Day Series is a platform for government institutions to explain their mandates, achievements, challenges, and future plans, while also creating space for meaningful dialogue between citizens and policymakers.

The first day of the event will focus on youth participation, featuring an inter-school quiz and debate competition involving junior and senior secondary schools across Falaba District.

Students will compete on a range of civic-focused topics, including the history of Sierra Leone, Constitutional Review, the National Population and Housing Census, revenue and tax collection, education, corruption, agriculture, technology, and innovation, among others.

The initiative aims to strengthen civic awareness among young people, encourage critical thinking, and inspire active participation in national development processes.

The second day will feature a high-level Civic Town Hall, bringing together over six ministers and heads of government agencies for interactive panel discussions.

The town hall is expected to attract a wide cross-section of stakeholders, including paramount chiefs, district council officials, administrators, youth groups, civil society organizations, disability advocacy groups, traders’ unions, grassroots organizations, and elderly representatives.

Citizens will be given the opportunity to engage directly with government officials, ask questions, raise concerns, and make suggestions on pressing national and local issues. The forum is also intended to promote transparency and accountability by allowing both citizens and government representatives to share a common platform to address governance challenges and explore practical solutions.

The Civic Day Series underscores the Ministry of Information and Civic Education’s commitment to bringing governance closer to the people, particularly in rural and underserved communities. By fostering open dialogue and citizen participation, the initiative seeks to strengthen trust, improve service delivery, and ensure that government policies reflect the needs and aspirations of all Sierra Leoneans.

As preparations continue, the upcoming engagement in Falaba District is expected to further advance the government’s vision of an informed, engaged, and empowered citizenry.
