In a powerful and emotional statement issued on social media, a prominent Sierra Leonean artiste, Frederick Dapaye Peters “FAMOUS” has addressed the recent alleged attack against him by Black Leo fans, vowing to pursue justice through legal means, while condemning the escalating violence and intimidation faced by entertainers in the industry.
FAMOUS broke his silence to clarify events surrounding what he described as a “violent, unprovoked attack” by a group of “wannabe gangsters” during a recent music event. According to him, the incident didn’t only endanger his life but also traumatize his team, including young dancers, many of whom sustained severe injuries and remain psychologically shaken.
“I had to do the right thing,” he stated, noting that he reported the matter to the Sierra Leone Police and sought a legal counsel. He emphasized that the attack was not a one-off occurrence, but part of a disturbing trend where innocent people are targeted, and the perpetrators later attempt to cast themselves as victims.
The artiste expressed dismay over the “vicious and unfounded accusations” being circulated on social media, accusing him of escalating tensions. “How can I let go what would have been a life-changing physical abuse?” he questioned, noting the need to stand up against a growing culture of impunity in the entertainment sector.
He revealed that clear evidence, including CCTV footage, videos, and audio recordings, has been submitted to both his legal team and the authorities. The materials, he said, support his account of the incident and would be critical in the pursuit of justice.
“My goal is not revenge, but justice,” he stated. “This is about upholding the principles of law and order, and ensuring no individual operates above the law.”
The artiste also disclosed the severity of the attack, revealing that he had to seek medical attention in the United States due to the effects of pepper spray used during the altercation. He emphasized the emotional and mental toll the incident has had, warning that such traumatic experiences, if downplayed, can lead to mental health challenges and depression.
Despite the gravity of the ordeal, he reiterated his commitment to lawful action and reaffirmed his dedication to building a safe and respectful music industry. “As an artiste, my focus has always been on making music that uplifts and supports others in the industry,” he said.
He cited his consistent support for fellow musicians, including Artical Foyoh and Star Zee, as examples of his contributions, and expressed disappointment that his presence at the event was overshadowed by those who came with malicious intent.
Reflecting on his January 2025 birthday pledge to support other artistes, he said the attack felt like a betrayal by those who claim to uphold industry values. However, he remains undeterred.
“I will cooperate fully with the authorities and give my utmost effort to ensure justice is served,” he concluded. “We must protect our industry and create an environment where all professionals feel safe, respected, and empowered.”
