The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations – FAO in Sierra Leone in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has commenced the second cohort of In-Service Veterinary Applied Epidemiology training for 20 field personnel.
The four weeks of formal (didactic) training will be followed by three months of home-based mentored field projects at the trainees’ duty stations. After the final internship, and training programme, trainees will receive ‘Certificates of Participation’ upon completion of the field case studies and dissemination of their field reports.
The training was launched by the Sahr Hemorh, Deputy Minister II Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security with brief statements from the Assistant FAOR Programmes – Wuyango B. Harding, Rene Besin, ECTAD Country Team Lead, and stakeholders from other key Ministries and University.
The programme is implemented through the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) initiative with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The ISAVET programme provides “training through service” to agriculture ministry by training field personnel and paraprofessionals in animal disease detection, reporting and response to zoonoses.
