As all heads roll in the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Freetown City Council (FCC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Sport- Devolved Sports Sector has Friday 7th August 2020 held an interactive dialogue and training secession on ‘Covid-19 Preventive Measures’ for sport coaches and Physical Health Education teachers across the Freetown Municipality, at the Presidential Lounge, National Stadium, Brookfields Freetown.
Jibson Gaima who is the Devolved Sport Officer attached to FCC informed that the session is to persistently raise the awareness on the impact of the novel coronavirus on sport, a sector that has been severely hit by the dreadful virus.
He delineated the need for the engagement of such stakeholders whom he described as trustworthy personalities that can transformed the negative the mind-sets of other individuals and pupils across communities in Freetown.
He called on the participants to remain very steadfast in kicking the novel coronavirus by reaching out to their various communities with messages of facemasks, hand wash, social distance, and other precautionary measures needed to curtail the virus.
The Communications Manager for the Civil Right Coalition, Tamba Deen, who also doubles as the Chairman of the occasion urged the participants to remain very united in the fight against the virus and he described them as ambassadors committed to health and peace in their various communities.
Anabi Yusufu Kamara who is a member of the Referees Association spoke on general health and hygiene by outlining the negative impact of the coronavirus on daily livelihood and he also appealed to all to stay fit by doing physical exercises which helps to fight against sickness in the body. Also, he advised the general public to stay glued to the health guidelines associated with Covid-19.
Joseph Kargbo, a teacher of the Tower Hill Municipal Primary School called on colleague teachers to reach out to pupils and ensure that all the precautionary measures that has to do with Covid-19 are adhered to within and outside the school vicinity. He also admitted that although the coronavirus has wreaked havoc on lives, but one good thing that has been visible especially in the school community is, increased hygiene practices.
