The final batch of the 214 pilgrims from Sierra Leone have on Wednesday 21 June departed from the Freetown International Airport at Lungi for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
These pilgrims will join the earlier group of 640 Muslims who had earlier embarked on their journey to perform the sacred pilgrimage of Hajj in the holy city of Mecca.
According to reports the Government of Sierra Leone appointed twelve (12) officials to accompany the pilgrims, ensuring their welfare and the provisions of necessary support throughout the journey.
Islamically, Hajj pilgrimage is considered one of the five pillars of Islam that has great spiritual and cultural importance to the Muslims world over.
Many Sierra Leonean Muslims, who are financially able, eagerly participate in this annual religious event.
This year, the cost for the entire pilgrimage and ceremony amounted to nearly six thousand US Dollars for locals.
