The convict who pleaded guilty to the offense of robbery, made his final appearance before Hon Justice Sesay on one count charge of robbery contrary to Section 23(2) of the Larceny Act 1916.
It was alleged that the convict on the 22 October 2020 at York in the Western Area Rural District robbed Hassan Kapri Dumbuya of his properties worth Le 5,016,000 old Leones.
Giving brief fact of the matter before the convict was sentenced, state prosecutor, Aruna Jalloh informed the court that on the date in question the accused and his colleagues who were still on the run break and entered into the shop of the complainant and stole his goods.
He said on the course of the robbery the complainant was also assaulted and after the robbery the complainant sustained some injuries and called for help, but by the time his neighbours arrived the accused had already ran away.
The state counsel furthered that in the morning hours of the incident, the complainant reported the matter at the Waterloo Police Division and on the same day the complainant saw the accused at Tombo Warf with some of his goods and raised alarm. He said that the accused was immediately arrested and taken to Waterloo Police Division for investigations.
Lawyer Randy S. Bangura from Legal Aid Board made a plea of mitigation on behalf of the convict.
Hon Justice Sesay said the accused pleaded guilty when the charge was read to him and didn’t waste the court’s time “I submit that the prosecution has proven it case beyond all reasonable doubt against the accused. I therefore hold the accused guilty as charged of the offense and sentenced him to five years imprisonment including the time spent in remand,” he ordered.
