In a significant step towards bolstering bilateral relations and fostering economic development, the Minister of Lands, Housing, and Country Planning, Dr. Turad Senesie, has Wednesday, 8 May 2024 welcomed a high-powered 28-man delegation of Chinese investors in his office at Youyi Building, Freetown.

The delegation’s visit follows a state visit by His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio to the People’s Republic of China, during which he engaged with various high-profile investors. These investors have now shown their commitment to supporting various social and economic development projects in Sierra Leone, spanning areas such as mining, infrastructure, agriculture, employment, and technology.

During the meeting, the Chinese investors reiterated their pledge to contribute to President Bio’s development agenda, which includes the ambitious initiative to establish a new city in Lungi as an extension of Freetown. This commitment aligns closely with the government’s vision for progress and prosperity in the country.

Minister Senesie expressed his satisfaction in receiving the delegation, emphasizing the longstanding relationship between Sierra Leone and China, characterized by mutual respect and collaborative development efforts. He highlighted the visible impact of Chinese support across various sectors of the country, underscoring the importance of continued cooperation for sustainable growth.

Assuring the delegation of his support, Minister Senesie pledged to facilitate the provision of land resources for development and social services in alignment with the directives and agenda of President Bio. He emphasized the significance of the Chinese investors’ interest in supporting the new city project, noting its strategic importance in advancing the country’s development goals.

The meeting was co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Lands Ministry, Abdul R.M Fofanah and the Presidential Spokesman, Alpha Kanu, underscoring the government’s commitment to transparency and collaboration in fostering partnerships for national progress.

In attendance include the Minister of Trade and Industry and the daughter of His Excellency the President Madam Michaella Bio.

As Sierra Leone embraces this new wave of investment and collaboration, the future holds promising opportunities for economic growth, infrastructure development, and social advancement, marking a significant milestone in the journey towards a more prosperous and sustainable future for the people of Sierra Leone.
