As Chief Negotiator of the All Peoples Congress Party on the Agreement for National Unity (ANU) and the Tripartite Committee Recommendations, I held my inaugural meeting today with my government counterpart, Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh.
The meeting marked a constructive step in strengthening dialogue and building trust. We acknowledged key progress already achieved under the ANU, including:
– Payment of backlogs owed to APC Members of Parliament and councillors.
– Release of APC supporters who were in detention, guided by the list submitted by the APC Secretariat.
– Permission for the return of internally and externally displaced persons.
Both sides reaffirmed our commitment to resolving the remaining issues. We agreed that the Attorney General and Minister of Justice should provide an update on all pending politically motivated cases involving APC members to ensure a fair and timely conclusion of ongoing appeals.
We also discussed the implementation of the Tripartite Committee Recommendations. It was agreed that APC representation on the Steering Committee will be expanded to include the following senior officials, as endorsed by the National Advisory Committee:

Recognising that many of the reforms will require legal and constitutional changes leading to a national referendum, we agreed that the Attorney General and Minister of Justice should organise a seminar with Members of Parliament. This will promote a clear understanding of the issues and facilitate informed debate before the reforms are presented in Parliament.
I extended appreciation to Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh and the Government of Sierra Leone for presenting the Tripartite Committee recommendations to Cabinet, demonstrating a commitment to national cohesion.
Our teams have identified specific areas for further discussion and will address these in the next engagement.
