In a significant diplomatic and humanitarian gesture, Nigeria’s President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, hosted the former President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting, which was attended by high-profile dignitaries, marked a moment of solidarity and friendship between the two West African nations.

The visit comes as Dr. Koroma undergoes medical treatment in Nigeria, following an order from the High Court of Sierra Leone. The former President, who governed Sierra Leone for nearly 12 years, is currently in Nigeria receivig the necessary medical care and support.

President Tinubu extended a warm welcome to Dr. Koroma, recognizing his contributions to regional stability and leadership during his tenure from 2007 to 2018. The Nigerian leader commended Koroma’s efforts in fostering peace and democracy in Sierra Leone, particularly during the post-civil war era and the Ebola crisis that ravaged the region.

The meeting was graced by several dignitaries, including top Nigerian government officials, diplomats, and members of the Sierra Leonean community in Nigeria. The atmosphere was one of camaraderie and mutual respect, highlighting the strong historical and political ties between the two nations.

Furthermore, President Tinubu assured the former President of Sierra Leone of his unwavering support in ensuring he receives the best medical care available.

“We are honored to host our brother and friend, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, and we are committed to providing him with the necessary support during this time. His leadership and dedication to the people of Sierra Leone have left a lasting legacy,” President Tinubu stated.

The meeting also served as an opportunity to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Both leaders emphasized the importance of collaboration in areas such as security, trade, and regional development. They acknowledged the role of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in fostering peace and economic growth in the region.

Dr. Koroma expressed gratitude for Nigeria’s hospitality and support, noting the historical bond between the two countries. He also commended President Tinubu’s leadership and Nigeria’s pivotal role in promoting stability and development across West Africa.

As Dr. Koroma continues his medical treatment, the visit underscores the enduring friendship and solidarity between Nigeria and Sierra Leone. The event not only highlighted the compassionate side of diplomacy but also reinforced the commitment of both nations to supporting one another in times of need.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting regional integration. President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to supporting Sierra Leone’s development and expressed hope for Dr. Koroma’s swift recovery.

This historic visit will be remembered as a testament to the enduring ties between two nations that have stood by each other through times of adversity and progress.
