By Ilyasa Baa

Criss cross politician from the Eastern District of Kailahun who could be best remembered for his diehard support for the All People’s Congress (APC) party and the former President, has begun what some in Freetown  have referred to as another bogus campaign by preaching that “there is no flag bearer to match up with president Dr Julius Maada Bio and there is going to be no run off”.

Like he did for the APC before the re-election of Dr Ernest Bai Koroma and even after he was re-elected, Hon Robin Fallay has started public electioneering campaigns through the media but this time around with another tongue that President Bio has achieved 70% of what he promised the people of Sierra Leone in his 2018 New Direction manifesto. He said that there is going to be a landslide victory with no run off come 24th June 2023. Prior to the flag bearer race, within the APC party following the previous election, Hon Fallay was one of those folks who were behind the “more time” bid for Ernest Koroma because according to him, Ernest was the political Messi and best player to continue with the play.

He continued that with the party as Deputy National Publicity Secretary as that was the only party that could encourage him at that time, which made him uncomfortable with the party claiming that he was verbally abused when he entered the party headquarters. According to Hon Fallay he went there to explain why it was necessary to take the party to court bla-bla-bla. After that he never returned to the party office.

Being a strategist to gain whatever he wants, Hon Robin Fallay started talking on radio programmes about COVID-19 later and drifted towards the economy so he could attract attention from Bio. Lately, Hon Fallay graduated to a soothsayer like the witches appearing to Macbeth; saying there will be no run off in the presidential election.

In fact, late Solomon Berewa who was surrounded by those that wanted to please him a lot, and he was made to believe that there was going to be no run off during the 2007 presidential elections which brought the APC into power after the rebel war. I begin to ponder if really politicians learn at all from election to election conducted just the same story! Politicians tell people what do not manifest at the end of the day. How would anyone know whether there will be run off or not? Even the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone cannot tell except someone tells me he contacted the oracles or a “tortorbeh” man.

He referred to the APC party as a failed opposition which cannot play its role well which he said should have been more constructive in criticising the government. Boastfully, Fallay said he was one of the strategists that paved the way for the re-election of former President Koroma in 2012, noting that he gave the APC over 30% votes in the SLPP stronghold of Kailahun. He reiterated that the party currently lacks the structure to attain victory with no flag bearer now.

It could be recalled that Hon Robin Fallay was a Member of Parliament under the SLPP representing Constituency 007 in Kailahun District. He had been the Chairman of the Youths Mobilization Committee in the SLPP.
