The Minister of Internal Affairs Rtd AIG Morie Lengor Esq, has on Thursday 17th April, 2025 received a courtesy call from a three-member delegation at his Gloucester Street Office in Freetown. According to the team lead and Deputy Head of Mission of The Gambia High Commission, Mr. Bulli Dibluo, the meeting aimed to inform the Minister about a proposal for a bilateral cooperation meeting between the two Countries, which was initiated by the Embassy of The Gambia together with the Embassy of Sierra Leone.
Mr. Dibluo said Gambia and Sierra Leone shared similar problems and challenges, the reason the two Embassies initiated a proposal for a bilateral meeting between the two Countries.
He informed that, the proposed meeting aimed to discuss security related matters, between the two Countries, in areas of cross border management, border crimes, drug trafficking and other immigration related matters. He said Sierra Leone could be described as a very small country, but the most peaceful country in West Africa, adding that the delegation is very much appreciative of the opportunities and facilities provided to them in Sierra Leone.
“I have spent couple of years in Sierra Leone, i am grateful to the President of Sierra Leone and his government for the hospitality” Mr. Dibluo stated.
Minister Lengor Esq, opened his statement with an overwhelming appreciation on behalf of the President, His Excellency Brig Rtd Julius Maada Bio to the Team for their visit, as the relationship between the two Countries has spanned for ages.
He underscored the shared values between the two Countries, admitting that they shared similar problems and challenges. He however, intimated that with continued collaboration and cooperation they would be able to address them, especially one bothering on the safety and security, of the two counterpart citizens residing in both Countries.
Minister Lengor Esq, further sorted the necessity to have an MOU, alongside the proposed bilateral meeting, on the issue of intelligence sharing, wherein, other key players in the security sector would be involved, including his main counterpart, the SLP, ONS and the Immigration, as a way forward to improve the composition of security related matters.
During their discussions, both parties exchanged pleasantries and reflected on the enduring and strong bilateral relationship between the two Countries.They emphasised areas of shared interest, while looking forward to the bilateral meeting, particularly on the importance of enhancing collaboration, cooperation and commitment in strengthening security between the two Countries, for the common goal in international relations.
