Glittering Foundation (GF) in collaboration with the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) with support from Economic Community for West African States (ECOWAS), the United Nations Development Programmes (UNDP) the European Union (EU) has commenced a voter education and peace project with the theme: “Voters Education for Peace” in the Western Rural District (WARD). The project was unveiled at a ceremony hosted No. 107 Main Motor Road, Camp Junction in Waterloo Freetown.
Making a statement at the unveiling of the project, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), of Glittering Foundation Isaiah Abdul Mansaray said Glittering with help of with ECSL supported by ECOWAS Glittering Foundation is there to capacitate the grass root organisations and that they are currently working with ten (10) grassroot organisations in the WARD.
Since he said the organisation was established on August 10, 2022, and they are there to engage community stakeholders to maintain peaceful cohesion in a society that is divided and impoverished due to several surges from civil war, Ebola to COVID-19 and political tensions.
Mansaray assured that come June 24 elections they want peace and unity before, during and after in the country, which can only be done through continuous engagements with the with community stakeholders.
He said grassroot organisations are incapacitated, and that GF is there to capacitate them to bring development in their communities. He buttressed that they wanted to prevent what occurred on August 10, 2022, demonstrations in WARD.
He assured that they will continue to work with the grass root organisations and ensured that there is peace and unity before, during and after June 24 elections through community engagement and sensitisation.
The Executive Director of Glittering Foundation, Henry Joe Lahai disclosed they are focusing three thematic areas including support by sponsoring individual organisations, advocacy which includes health and education and partnership by working with community stakeholders and the media as they are important.
He assured that with partnership and collaboration they will be able to achieve their objectives.
Lahai said they are going to embark on radio engagement and sensitisation the people in the WARD to maintain peace before, during and after June 24 elections in country.
He pleaded with Sierra Leoneans do not involve their children into politics, adding during that during August 10, a lot of children were arrested which he said it’s not good for them.
