The Kenema community was left in shock following the brutal murder of 80-year-old Lebanese businessman Salim Alie Dayeck, whose lifeless body was discovered at his residence, bearing signs of a violent struggle.

An examination of the scene revealed deep cuts on his arms, a partially slashed throat, and severe eye injuries, indicating a vicious attack that likely culminated in his death. The disturbing nature of the crime has raised concerns over the safety and security of residents in the area.

Witnesses reported a chaotic scene at the residence, suggesting a fierce altercation between the victim and his assailant before the fatal blows were delivered. The heinousness of the crime has led to speculations of ritualistic overtones, further deepening the gravity of the situation.

Moreover, unsettling rumours have surfaced linking some members of the Operational Security Division (OSD) Police Officers to the case, prompting heightened scrutiny and a call for a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.

The alleged involvement of security personnel in such a grievous incident underscores the urgency for transparent and expedited inquiries to ascertain the truth and hold all responsible parties accountable.

In light of these developments, the police in Kenema have initiated a probe into the matter, with the main suspect identified as 22-year-old Umaru Sama. Alongside a dozen of other individuals, Sama is currently cooperating with the authorities to shed light on the circumstances leading to Dayeck’s tragic demise.

The collaborative efforts of the Sierra Leone Police, as well as the testimonies of witnesses like Kamal Mamtalla Mansour, who raised the alarm upon discovering the gruesome scene, are crucial in piecing together the events that transpired on that fateful day.

The recovery of two bloodstained knives at the crime scene further underscores the brutal nature of the crime and underscores the need for swift and thorough investigation.

The tragic loss of Salim Alie Dayeck has sent shockwaves through the community and prompted a renewed focus on security measures in Kenema. As the investigation unfolds, residents await answers and justice for the slain businessman, with assurances from authorities that every effort will be made to bring those responsible to account. The meticulous pursuit of truth and justice in this case is paramount to restoring a sense of safety and peace among the residents of Kenema.

This medium reached out to Prince J. Kamara from the Sierra Leone Police Media in Kenema District, who promised to comment on the alleged involvement of security personnel in the businessman’s killing. However, as of press time, he has not yet responded.
