The Communications Officer of the Smallholder Commercialization and Agribusiness Development, Abraham Samura, says that Government of Sierra Leone has signed Fourteen Million Eight Hundred Thousand United State Dollars US14.8M to construct two bridges in Kailahun and Karena districts to enable farmers get easy access to the markets.
Samura last Thursday 21st October 2022 made the disclosure at the Ministry of Information and Communications weekly news conference at Youyi Building in Freetown.
He said that the two bridges will provide easy access to farmers to carry their farm goods to the markets, adding that the construction work will be done by Mariswa Constructing Company from South Africa with a time frame of fifteen months.
He said the bridge will be 161 meters long, costing 7.4 million United States Dollars.
Head of ITC at the Smallholder Commercialization and Agribusiness Development Abubackarr Tamu said that the constructions of the two bridges is a project designed under SCADeP.
He said that the project will be funded by World Bank and the objective is to reduce manual crossing point for farmers, adding that 80% of farmers find it difficult to get their goods in the markets on time because of difficulties in the area of transportation.
