Yesterday 24/09/2020, at around 1 pm, Sierra Leone time – a friend from New Jersey, US called her friend at King Harman Road, Freetown asking her to support Alfred Peter Conteh. The friend in Freetown curiously asked “support Alfred on what? “The NJ friend replied “Alfred intends to aspire for the party’s flag bearer position” “let me think about it and I will call you back,” the Freetown friend replied. End of conversation.
Thereafter, the news got to me; hence I tried to contact Alfred Peter Conteh on several occasions on this number +1 (732) 299-2927 to confirm the above story about his flag bearer ambition. Unfortunately, he could not pick up my calls.
Wow! What a great ambition! But before I continue may I ask these rhetorical questions: Besides reform, what is the other reason(s) for taking the party to court? Why is Alfred holding the party to ransom?
Please don’t get me wrong, Alfred Peter Conteh has all the rights to aspire for any position within the party as long as he meets the conditions stipulated in the Constitution.
However, it would be disingenuous on his part to hold the party to ransom because of his flag-bearer ambition, especially at a period when the party is going through challenging times, and it is less than ten months to general elections, the house is still in disorder. Because of Alfred’s action, the party is fragmented, and there is no structured coordination within the party hierarchy.
The financiers including the diaspora have held back their money, as a result, every activity of the party including the registration process is disjointed, as stakeholders are working independently and not as a team- which is not producing the desired outcome.
According to reliable sources, Alfred is working with SLPP, and some of them are also supporting him financially. For instance, the SLPP London Jet is paying his rental car bill every month to AHOLD CAR RENTAL & CAR MAX at Aberdeen, whilst the office of the First Lady is responsible for his hotel bill at Bintumani.
Alfred Peter Conteh Is Playing the Game of the Prisoner’s Dilemma
The prisoner’s dilemma is a paradox in decision analysis in which two individuals acting in their self-interests do not produce the optimal outcome.
This concept perfectly fits within the current existing situation in the APC. Whilst some comrades are supporting Alfred making him to believe that they have the same objective.
But the reality is Alfred has his own personal plan that is hidden from his backers, similarly some of these supporters have their own personal interest which is hidden from Alfred.
In the interim, they have a common enemy and for the marriage to continue between Alfred and his backers the situation has to continue like this in order to achieve their desired outcome.
Since both parties are working in their selfish interest; nonetheless, their main objective should be kept secret from each other.
In other words, Alfred is not aware about the main objective of his backers, equally the backers are ignorant about Alfred’s ultimate objective. That is the dilemma.
In the event any one becomes aware of each other’s secret agenda that will be the end of the partnership and the outcome of their mission will not be optimal.
Party members are cognizant of the fact that there is an indication that the party has all the chances to win next year’s Presidential election.
However, because of the current state of affairs within the party, some members are pessimistic about the future.
It is less than ten months to the general elections, the party has no date for its lower-level elections because of Alfred Peter Conteh selfish plan.
The APC party has gone through so many internal dramas in the past, but the current situation under Alfred Peter Conteh.
Is unimaginable, to say the least.
Let me respectfully end with a quote from Thucydides a Greek historian and General.
“The Love of power, operating through greed and personal ambition, was the cause of all these evils.
Until then stay tuned from
