The dynamic Member of Parliament representing the people of Moyamba District, Hon.Alpha Ben Mansaray to be specific Rebbi and it surrounding, during the debate on the presidential approvals in the Chamber of Parliament this week called on authority to focused educational reforms, and other challenges, affecting the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) and other related activities.

In his contribution to the debate on the 16/7/2024 in the Chamber of Parliament Hon, Mansaray, underscord the important of education and it urgent reforms. He passionately advocated for the nominees of the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) to be approved while highlighting critical issues affecting Sierra Leone’s education and workforce sectors.

He began by endorsing Professor Osman Sankoh (Mallam O) current deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Management and Technology (UNIMTECH), as a nominee for the TEC. Recognizing Sankoh’s qualifications and potential impact, Hon. Ben expressed confidence in his ability to elevate the commission and contribute significantly to national educational goals.

Hon. Alpha Ben Mansaray lamented Sierra Leone’s declining educational standards, stressing the urgent need for revitalization. He envisioned restoring the nation’s status as a regional educational hub and a global contender, urging comprehensive reforms to ensure Sierra Leone competes favorably in both African and global educational rankings.

As a member of the Technical and Higher Education Committee, Hon. Alpha Ben Mansaray challenged his colleagues to move beyond superficial accolades and address substantive issues plaguing the country. He highlighted data integrity concerns and emphasized the need for accurate reporting to foster genuine progress.

The parliamentarian also emphasized the importance of curriculum reform to enhance competitiveness and prepare students for global opportunities. He underscored the necessity of developing a skilled local workforce capable of meeting demands posed by foreign investors.

Despite grappling with budget constraints, Honorable Ben urged his fellow MPs to advocate for an increased budget allocation to the TEC, emphasizing the need for proper functioning of government institutions.

Turning his attention to Mr. Daniel from Moyamba, another TEC nominee, Hon. Alpha Ben Mansaray anticipated positive contributions that would benefit Moyamba District and its residents.

Beyond education, Hon. Alpha Ben Mansaray raised alarms about the high turnover rates within Sierra Leone’s Maritime Association, citing its detrimental effects on organizational stability and costs.

In closing, Hon. Alpha Ben Mansaray urged all nominees to prioritize national interests in their roles, encouraging diligence and dedication to their duties. He concluded by requesting parliamentary approval for the nominees and wished them success in their endeavors.
