Hon. Mohamed Sidi Tunis, a prominent ranking Member of the Sierra Leone Parliament and former Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, has once again demonstrated his enduring commitment to regional cooperation, democratic governance, and parliamentary diplomacy. His participation in the high-level delegation that accompanied President Julius Maada Bio to Abidjan for the inauguration of President Alassane Ouattara underscores his influential role in shaping West Africa’s political landscape.

The visit to Côte d’Ivoire came shortly after Hon. Tunis received distinguished recognition in Abuja for his outstanding service in promoting parliamentary diplomacy, strengthening democratic institutions, and advancing good governance across the ECOWAS region. The honour, awarded by the ECOWAS Parliament, highlighted his exceptional leadership during his tenure as Speaker and his unwavering dedication to fostering dialogue and unity among member states.

Building on this recent accolade, Hon. Tunis’s inclusion in the presidential delegation to Abidjan further reinforced his stature as one of the region’s most respected parliamentary figures. The inauguration of President Alassane Ouattara brought together leaders from across West Africa, symbolizing a shared commitment to peaceful transitions, stability, and cooperation. For Hon. Tunis, the event served as both a diplomatic engagement and an affirmation of the principles he has long championed.

Throughout his career, Hon. Tunis has consistently emphasized the importance of collaboration among governments, parliaments, and regional bodies in confronting West Africa’s most pressing challenges. His work has focused on consolidating peace, promoting constitutional order, and strengthening the institutions that uphold democracy. His presence in Abidjan therefore represented more than a ceremonial duty; it was a continuation of his longstanding mission to build bridges across nations and reinforce the structures that safeguard regional stability.

Hon. Tunis has often credited President Bio’s leadership for creating an enabling environment in which Sierra Leone can play an active and respected role on the continental stage. According to him, President Bio’s tireless efforts in promoting peace, security, and development across the sub-region inspire all those working toward the advancement of West Africa. Participating in such a historic occasion under the leadership of the Sierra Leonean Head of State, he noted, deepened his resolve to continue advocating for unity and collective progress.

The Abidjan engagement also reflected Hon. Tunis’s belief in diplomacy as a cornerstone for resolving conflicts and fostering mutual understanding among member states. His interactions with regional leaders and parliamentary colleagues reaffirmed the need for sustained dialogue in addressing shared concerns such as economic integration, security cooperation, and democratic consolidation.

As West Africa navigates a period marked by political transitions, security threats, and aspirations for stronger economic ties, the leadership of individuals like Hon. Mohamed Sidi Tunis remains vital. His recent honour in Abuja and his role in the Abidjan delegation highlight both his influence and his unwavering dedication to the ECOWAS vision.

For Sierra Leone, his continued service strengthens the nation’s voice in regional affairs. For West Africa, it reinforces a model of leadership grounded in diplomacy, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to peace and solidarity.
