The Deputy Head of the Community Relations Department of the Sierra Leone Police, Superintendent Samuel Saio Conteh has on Monday 8 July, 2024 disclosed at a press conference held at Police Headquarters on George Street, Freetown that Sierra Leone has become rampant to traffic people especially children in various country.

 

He said, the trafficking of people is taken place is Port Loko, Pujehun, Bombali, Kenema, Falaba, and other part of Western area. Superintendent Conteh added that the Police are everywhere to see that they pass on the information about people going to certain villages or towns and asked relatives to give them their children to enrol them in school which is not the case.

According to him, the SLP is now doing jungle in all the local languages for people to understand the danger of trafficking and relatives should not allow anybody that come to them and ask for their children to take them to Freetown or neighbouring countries for help them to go to school. Superintendent Conteh went on to say the story from certain people that they will help their children to go to school if handed over to them is not true. “They will be used for slavery or use them to sell on the street,” he said.

 

He end up saying, the Police is monitoring the area trafficking is taken place to weed out those that are involved in such crime
