Former Vice President of Sierra Leone, Alhaji Samuel Sidique Sam-Sumana has strongly reaffirmed his loyalty to the All People’s Congress (APC), dismissing doubts and criticism over his political allegiance. Addressing a packed press conference at the Radisson Blu Conference Hall in Aberdeen, Freetown, on Wednesday 3 September 2025, Chief Sam-Sumana declared that his political journey began with the APC and would end with the APC.
“I was born APC, and I will die APC,” he told party supporters and the press, drawing loud applause from the audience.
The former Vice President, who served under former President Ernest Bai Koroma, used the platform to clear lingering doubts about his position within the party. His statement comes amid ongoing debates about his role in APC politics following years of internal tension and controversy.
Chief Sam-Sumana described his commitment to the party as unshakable, emphasizing that his loyalty had never wavered despite the political challenges he has faced. He noted that his mission remains to contribute to the growth, stability, and unity of the APC, adding that his primary focus is to restore the party to its rightful place in Sierra Leone’s political landscape.
“I am ready to bring this party where it belongs,” he said. “I call on every member, young and old, to come onboard so we can move the APC in the right direction, irrespective of the circumstances.”
His remarks carried undertones of disappointment, particularly as he addressed what he described as political injustice within the party. Although he refrained from pointing fingers directly, Sam-Sumana made it clear that he had endured unfair treatment in the past. Nevertheless, he insisted that such experiences had strengthened his resolve to remain true to his political roots.
Political analysts at the event noted that Sam-Sumana’s statement was as much a reassurance to his supporters as it was a challenge to his critics. Over the years, questions have been raised about his allegiance, particularly after his dramatic removal as Vice President in 2015 and his subsequent fallout with the party hierarchy. His declaration on Wednesday, however, sought to put such doubts to rest once and for all.
Observers also highlighted the symbolic weight of his chosen venue and timing. The Radisson Blu press conference drew a significant audience, including party stalwarts, grassroots supporters, and members of the media, signaling that Sam-Sumana remains a force to reckon with inside the APC.
During his speech, he appealed for reconciliation and unity within the party ranks. He stressed that internal divisions could only weaken the APC’s chances of reclaiming power and urged members to rise above personal grievances for the collective good. “We must work together,” he said, “because this party is bigger than any individual.”
As the APC prepares for future elections, Sam-Sumana’s declaration is expected to influence both the party’s internal dynamics and the national political discourse. For many supporters, his words underscored a long-standing bond with the APC, while critics remain cautious about his role in the party’s direction.
Despite the controversies that have shaped his career, Chief Alhaji Samuel Sam-Sumana’s message was clear: his political life is firmly tied to the APC. In his own words, “I was born APC, and I will die APC.”
