Freetown, 24 August 2025 – Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, has departed Freetown for Cape Town, South Africa, to participate in the 27th INTERPOL African Regional Conference scheduled for 27–29 August 2025.

In his capacity as Chairman of the West Africa Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), Mr. Sellu will deliver a presentation on the theme “Cybercrime and the Response from West Africa” in “The Fight against Transnational Cybercrime in Africa”.

His address will focus on the regional strategies and the critical role of West African security institutions in combating the rising threat of cybercrime across Africa.

The INTERPOL African Regional Conference, held biennially, serves as one of the organization’s premier platforms for senior law enforcement leaders across Africa. It provides an avenue to exchange ideas, review policing policies, and strengthen cross-border cooperation in the fight against organised and transnational crime.

Mr. Sellu’s participation demonstrates Sierra Leone’s increasing visibility in international security engagements. It also reflects the country’s proactive stance under the leadership of His Excellency, Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio, Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in addressing emerging regional security challenges.
