Music, energy and community spirit will take centre stage in Freetown as De Friends of Western Area prepare to host the first edition of the Inter Area DJs and Hyping Competition, an entertainment event aimed at bringing young people and communities together.

The competition, scheduled for Friday 10 April 2026 at Congo Town Field, is expected to attract music lovers, DJs, hype men and youth groups from different communities across the Western Area. Organisers say the event will start at 8 pm and continue until dawn, promising a night filled with music, creativity and friendly competition.

According to members of De Friends of Western Area, the initiative is designed to create a platform for young entertainers to showcase their talent while also promoting unity among communities. The organisers explained that the competition is the first edition of what they hope will become an annual event that will continue to grow each year.

They believe that entertainment can be a powerful tool for social connection and positive engagement among young people.

The event will feature several DJs and hype men representing different communities. Among those expected to perform are DJ School Boy and Hyperman Obama representing Congo Tong Banana Wata Community, DJ Alish and Hyperman Fancy from Crab Town and Bonga Town, and DJ Man Vas with Hiper Man Zaza representing Pump Line Community.

Other participants include DJ Man Sukus and Hyper Babious from Kolleh Tong, DJ Man Ish and Hyper Man Belly representing Murray Oloshoro, and DJ Man Tekno with Hyper Man Blacko from Cole Farm Community.

DJ Man Lex will represent New London and Watar Street, while DJ Man will perform alongside Hyper Man Fila representing the Maeenbah and Kolar Stick area.

The organisers say the competition will test participants on energy, voice control, stage presence and their ability to connect with and control the crowd. According to them, the goal is to identify some of the best emerging DJs and hype men within the Western Area.

Beyond entertainment, the event also carries a strong social message. Organisers are using the platform to promote awareness against drug abuse with the campaign message Say No to Drugs.

Members of De Friends of Western Area say their mission goes beyond hosting events. They want to use entertainment as a way of bringing young people together, strengthening relationships among communities and encouraging positive social values.

They also believe that creating opportunities for young entertainers can help inspire creativity and confidence among the youth.

With strong interest already building ahead of the event, the organisers remain hopeful that the competition will become a major annual platform for community entertainment and youth engagement across the Western Area.
