A private security personnel attached to the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) construction site at Bureh in the Western Rural District, Abdul Rahman Bayoh was last Friday 11th November 2022 sent to the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road after his first appearance before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Court No1 in Freetown, for allegedly stealing building materials meant for the project.The accused, Bayoh is before the court on one count charge of Larceny Contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particular offense, the accused from 1st September to 5th October 2022 at the IPAM site, Bureh in the Western Rural District, stole Sixteen Thousand Five Hundred hallow cement bricks valued at Two Hundred and Ninety-Seven new Thousand Leones, property of IPAM.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused, Bayoh he pleaded not guilty. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ibrahim S. Manasaray who is prosecuting the matter applied for an adjourn date so that he can get his witness prepared for subsequent proceedings of the matter.
Defence counsel representing the accused, lawyer A. R. Kargbo applied for bail for and on behalf of Bayoh on grounds that the accused is a first time offender. Kargbo appealed that his client will not interfere with the prosecution witness(s).
He told the court that he has reliable sureties who are willing to go into recognisance on his behalf and the accused will not jump bail. Lawyer Kargbo made an application in pursuant to Section 793 of the Criminal Procedure Act No.32 of 1965.
Magistrate Mark Ngegba refused the bail application, remanded the accused and adjoined the matter to 18th November 2022.
