The Irish Minister of International Development, Neale Richmond, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Finance, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, at his George Street office in Freetown on Monday, April 7, 2025, as part of his official visit to Sierra Leone.
In the meeting, the Irish minister informed his host that he is in the country to engage the government of Sierra Leone on various partnership opportunities and follow up on current Irish-funded projects on education and microfinance.
Neale Richmond reiterated the commitments of the Irish government to continue and maintain its relationship with Sierra Leone.
Minister Sheku Fantamadi Bangura, in his response, thanked the Irish Minister for the visit, noting that his presence in Sierra Leone demonstrates their commitment to fostering the bilateral relationship between Sierra Leone and Ireland.
He further stated that with all the shift in International Aid, he is pleased that the Irish have committed to sticking with Sierra Leone.
Minister Bangura briefed his guest on the government’s big-five agenda, highlighting progress in education, reforms in the economy, and interventions in energy.
Similarly, the Minister of Finance hosted a mission from ECOWAS, WAMA, and WAMI to conduct an assessment of Sierra Leone’s economy, during which the Minister highlighted several economic reforms the government has undertaken, including controlling expenditure, boosting domestic revenue generation, reducing inflation, and stabilising the currency.
He reiterated Sierra Leone’s commitment to the broader regional economic integration especially attaining the monetary union.
