Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed “Omodu” Kamara, widely known as Jagaban, has once again demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of Sierra Leone’s Muslim community with a generous donation of 500,000 new Leones to the United Council of Imams.
The donation, presented at the Eastern Headquarters in Freetown, is aimed at supporting the Ramadan Iftar program for Imams throughout the country.
Jagaban, a prominent philanthropist and influential businessman, is also a leading figure in Sierra Leone’s main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Party. His recent act of generosity continues his long-standing tradition of giving back to the community, especially during the Holy month of Ramadan.
The donation was made in the presence of key figures from the United Council of Imams, including Deputy Amil Sheikh Bundu Koroma, National Secretary-General; Sheikh Mas Kanu; and Director of Organizing Affairs, Alhaji Sankoh, who all attended the ceremony to witness the presentation.
At the event, the Islamic Head of the Jagaban Movement, Sheikh Ibrahim King, introduced the movement to the council members before presenting the donation on behalf of Jagaban.
Sheikh King expressed his leader’s ongoing commitment to supporting Islamic initiatives and communities in need across the country, particularly during Ramadan, a time of fasting, reflection, and charity.
Sheikh Mas Kanu, the National Secretary-General of the United Council of Imams, thanked Jagaban for his unwavering generosity and support for the development of Islam in Sierra Leone.
He noted that the donation marks the second consecutive year that Jagaban has provided significant financial assistance for the Ramadan Iftar program, a tradition that has greatly benefited Imams across the country.
“This is not just a financial contribution, but a demonstration of commitment to the advancement of Islam in Sierra Leone and the well-being of our people,” Sheikh Kanu said. “Jagaban’s donation will go a long way in ensuring that our Imams can carry out their religious duties and continue to provide guidance to our communities during this sacred month.”
In his remarks, Deputy Amil Sheikh Bundu Koroma also praised Jagaban for his consistent support, describing him as a beacon of hope for the Muslim community. “Jagaban’s support goes beyond just donations; it is a reflection of his genuine concern for the growth and progress of our country,” Sheikh Koroma said. “His generosity is an inspiration to us all, and we are thankful for his continued contributions.”
Jagaban’s philanthropic endeavours are not limited to this Ramadan donation. Over the past years, he has been a consistent benefactor to various sectors, including education, healthcare, and social welfare. His charitable contributions have impacted thousands of Sierra Leoneans, from the donation of medical supplies to hospitals, to providing scholarships for underprivileged students. His support for local businesses and initiatives, particularly those that uplift the marginalized and disadvantaged, has earned him respect as a key figure in Sierra Leone’s civic landscape.
Jagaban’s recent donations, including his contributions to religious and community organizations, underscore his belief in giving back to society. As Ramadan is a time for reflection, selflessness, and generosity, Jagaban’s ongoing charitable work during this period serves as an example to others in both the public and private sectors.
The ceremony concluded with prayers of gratitude for Jagaban’s dedication to the betterment of Sierra Leone. Imams and community members prayed for continued blessings upon him and his family, as well as for the prosperity of Sierra Leone.
Jagaban’s unwavering commitment to the country’s development, coupled with his generosity during Ramadan, has cemented his reputation as a philanthropist deeply invested in the nation’s growth and prosperity.
