Prominent philanthropist and political figure Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara, widely known as Jagaban, has engaged Islamic leaders in Bo District in a meeting focused on strengthening collaboration, unity, and mutual respect within Sierra Leone’s Muslim community.

Addressing a large gathering of Imams, scholars, and community leaders, Jagaban expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet with respected religious figures who play a vital role in promoting peace and moral guidance across the nation. He emphasized that peace, love, and unity are the foundation for both national development and the advancement of Islam.

In his address, Jagaban highlighted the growing challenges faced by many mosques across the country, particularly those whose construction remains incomplete due to limited financial support. He noted that while the government plays a role in national development, Muslims must also take greater responsibility in supporting their local mosques and religious teachers.

“Sometimes we blame the government for what we can fix ourselves,” Jagaban said. “We, as Muslims, must show more commitment to helping our Imams and completing our mosques. These are our places of worship and symbols of faith.”

He further stressed the importance of supporting Islamic teachers and preachers who continue to nurture the moral and spiritual growth of young people, saying their contributions are vital to the country’s moral fabric. Jagaban also called for a God-fearing and sincere leadership that places the interests of the people above personal gain.

Although he has never held public office, Jagaban reminded attendees of his long-standing contributions to the development of Islam in Sierra Leone. He pledged continued efforts to complete unfinished mosques and to ensure that Islamic workers receive proper support and recognition, with the backing of the wider Muslim community.

During the engagement, Jagaban made a major political announcement, formally declaring his intention to contest for the flagbearer position of the All Peoples Congress (APC) Party ahead of the 2028 presidential elections. He appealed to the Imams for their prayers, blessings, and guidance as he embarks on this new phase of leadership, pledging to remain committed to national unity, religious harmony, and social progress.

Representing the Islamic leaders, Sheikh Alhaji Osman Kiawoin, Chairman of the United Islamic Council of Imams, expressed deep appreciation to Jagaban for his unwavering support to Islam and national development. He cited notable examples of Jagaban’s contributions, including his intervention in the construction of the Moyamba Central Mosque, a project that had remained incomplete for over sixty years, and his consistent support to Imams during the holy month of Ramadan.

The event concluded with remarks from the Bo APC District Chairman, Mr. Amidu Kiata, who commended Jagaban for his leadership and generosity. A closing prayer was offered by Sheikh Mohamed S. Koroma, seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings for Jagaban’s ambitions and continued service to both the nation and the Muslim community.
