Sierra Leone’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, participated in the Civic Day Series organized by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, where he provided the public with important updates on the ongoing constitutional reforms and the implementation of the Tripartite recommendations.

The event, held at the Kambia District Council compound, allowed the minister to address pressing issues concerning Sierra Leone’s justice system and reaffirm government’s dedication to enhancing the legal framework of the country.

During his address, Attorney General Sesay emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to improving Sierra Leone’s justice system. He highlighted the progress made on constitutional reforms and assured the public that the government remains focused on building a legal system that is both effective and accessible to every citizen.

The Attorney General’s speech resonated with the people of Kambia, as he outlined the government’s ongoing efforts to streamline legal processes and strengthen the rule of law across the nation.

Following the Civic Day session, Attorney General Sesay took the opportunity to visit key judicial and correctional facilities in Kambia District. His visit included an in-depth assessment of the Correctional Service Center and the Kambia District Courthouse.

The minister directly engaged staff members of both institutions, fostering open communication about the challenges they face and the progress made in addressing these concerns.

“I had the chance to speak with court and correctional service personnel to better understand the progress made, as well as the challenges they face within the justice system,” said Attorney General Sesay. “The visit was a humbling experience and reinforced the need for comprehensive reform to ensure our justice system meets the needs of our people,” he added.

The Attorney General’s visit also underscored the government’s broader legal reform agenda, which aims to address both operational and structural challenges within the country’s judicial and correctional institutions. The government is committed to improving access to justice, enhancing the efficiency of legal processes, and ensuring that the rule of law prevails across Sierra Leone.

The legal reform agenda is focused on creating a more effective, efficient, and accessible justice system for all Sierra Leoneans,  including reducing overcrowding in correctional facilities, improving infrastructure, and offering better training and resources to judicial staff. The ultimate goal is to ensure that Sierra Leone’s legal system provides fair and timely justice for everyone, especially the underserved communities.

The Attorney General’s visit to Kambia reflects the government’s deep commitment to building a stronger, more resilient justice system.

Through such reforms, the government aims to foster trust and confidence in the legal system and improve the overall delivery of justice in the country.
