The president of the Karina Fofanah Kankele organisation has appealed to Mandingoes in Sierra Leone and in the diaspora to unite and work together. The president organization, Umaru Fofanah said unity is strength and implored his compatriots to work together.
The Karina Fofanah Kankele is a cultural group and a Non-Governmental Organization formed by the descendants of the Fofanah/Fofana community, who were the early MANDE settlers in Sierra Leone, following the fall of the Mali Empire in the late 16th Century.
The organisation says its vision is to ensure that the Karina Fofanah Kankele community, children and young people attain their full potentials, talents and ability in promoting the Mandingo language, culture, values, social welfare and tradition in alliance with other ethnicities worldwide.

President Umaru Fofanah said they were able to achieve such a huge goal with support from the laudable contributions from some members of the organization.
He said the project is intensive and will be challenging to complete without external support, and therefore appealed to ”sons and daughters” of Karina district to support this project with whatever they have, in making sure they collectively actualize their shared vision. He also appealed to prominent businessman Mohamed Sidibey, the Chief Executive Officer of Sierra Star to come to the rescue of the Mandingo union in its developmental drive.
Seray Fofanah, Regional Women’s Leader of the organisation said; ‘We are very happy about this project. Some of us are single parents we don’t have the financial capacity to pay fees for our children to go to university, but with this multipurpose skill development building we are hopeful that it will surely provide our children the required skills to make them useful in society.”
Mohamed B.S. Fofana, Coordinator of Karina Fofanah Kankele said the project is not just for the training of Mandingoes. He said the institute will be open to all irrespective of tribe or religion.
