The Mayor of Kenema City, Thomas Karimu Baio, has reiterated his commitment to improving road connectivity across the city as part of his ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and city development.

In a recent statement on All Out Radio 90.1 FM in Kenema, Mayor Baio emphasized the vital role that improved road networks play in fostering economic growth, enhancing trade, and improving the daily lives of Kenema residents.

In line with his administration’s vision to modernize the city, the mayor outlined several key initiatives aimed at improving road conditions, addressing traffic congestion, and ensuring safer travel for both motorists and pedestrians.

Such efforts are part of a broader city development plan aimed at creating a more accessible and sustainable Kenema under President Julius Maada Bio’s government.

Mayor Baio highlighted the ongoing rehabilitation of key Kenema City roads, which are expected to ease traffic flow and reduce travel time for commuters. The projects are being undertaken in collaboration with local contractors and government agencies, ensuring that the work is in line with both local needs and national development goals.

“As we continue to develop Kenema, improving our road infrastructure is crucial for the city’s growth and prosperity. Well-maintained roads are essential not only for the convenience of our residents but also for attracting investment and fostering a competitive local economy,” said the mayor.

Key areas of focus include the rehabilitation of major roads leading to key economic zones, including markets, schools, hospitals, and industrial areas. Such roads are vital for facilitating movement, trade, and access to essential services. The Kenema city administration has also prioritized the maintenance of secondary roads, which are critical for ensuring that all residents, especially those in remote neighborhoods, have reliable access to transportation.

Looking ahead, the mayor underscored that the city plans to invest in long-term solutions to ensure that road connectivity remains a sustainable asset for Kenema. Such  solutions include enhanced drainage systems to prevent flooding, the installation of traffic lights in busy intersections, and the construction of pedestrian walkways to improve safety for non-motorized road users. “We are not only focusing on improving the roads but also ensuring that our city is prepared for the challenges of the future. This includes building a road network that is resilient to climate change, ensuring proper drainage systems, and making sure that everyone can move around the city safely and efficiently,” he added.

Mayor Baio’s administration has also taken steps to involve the community in road development projects. Public consultations and community forums have been held to gather feedback from residents and ensure that the plans reflect the needs and concerns of those who would be most affected by the changes.

The mayor expressed his belief that collaboration between the city government and residents is essential for building a better, more inclusive Kenema. “We are committed to listening to the people of Kenema. Their input is invaluable in shaping the direction of our city’s growth. Together, we will continue to work towards making Kenema a more connected, sustainable, and thriving city,” the mayor said.

Mayor Baio’s vision for a modernized Kenema goes beyond just roads. His administration is working on broader road development projects, which include improving public services, creating more green spaces, enhancing educational facilities, and making the city more attractive to investors and tourists alike.

With improved road connectivity, the city is poised to experience a boost in economic activity, with better access to markets, services, and jobs. The mayor remains confident that with continued investment in infrastructure, Kenema can become one of the most well-connected and dynamic cities in Sierra Leone.

The commitment of Mayor Thomas Karimu Baio to enhancing road connectivity in Kenema City is a key part of his broader strategy for city development and community growth.

As road projects continue to take shape across the city, residents can look forward to a more accessible, efficient, and safer transportation network.
