The highly coveted Ernest Bai Koroma (EBK) Trophy has ended Sunday December 25th at the Wusum Field in Makeni with Kholifa Stars of Magburaka emerging winners. They defeated Bullom Stars from Lungi in post – game penalities
Popularly called the EBK Trophy, the tournament has become a major feature in our football calendar. It was founded by the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon Chernor Maju Bah who is himself a football enthusiast.
This year’s EBK Trophy featured non-division sides drawn from various parts of the country to engage in a qualifying series starting in November this year.
The Grand Chief Patron of the Tournament, Former President, Dr Ernest Bai Koroma, commended the organizers of the football competition and admonished the participants to remain focused and committed in pursuing their football careers.
President Koroma further encouraged other citizens to invest in the game as it does not only bring people together but has also become a huge source of income for millions of people across the globe.
The champions of this year’s tournament, Kholifa Stars received a cash price of Thirty Thousand New Leones whilst the runner -up, Bullom Stars bagged Fifteen Thousand New Leones.
The former President was delighted over the fact that the EBK Trophy tournament has proven to become one of the most peaceful football competitions in Sierra Leone. He urged that more teams should be encouraged to participate to give the competition a bigger national outlook
