Kissy, Freetown –August 2025 – The Kissy Police Division has officially commissioned a newly constructed Investigations office (I-Branch), in a ceremony held at the Dr Mohamed Tunde Macarthy Hall in Kissy.
The facility, built to enhance the Division’s investigative capacity, is expected to provide a more professional and conducive environment for handling criminal cases, while also strengthening police–community relations.
In his opening remarks, the Local Unit Commander (LUC), CSP Eric Murana Kamara, expressed gratitude to Dr Mohamed Tunde Macarthy for financing the construction. He noted that Dr Macarthy had previously supported the development of several police facilities within the Division’s jurisdiction. According to CSP Kamara, such interventions align with the vision of the Inspector General of Police, Mr William Fayia Sellu, to transform the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) from a force into a more service-oriented institution. He added that the new office has significantly boosted personnel morale.
Handing over the building, Dr Macarthy – a US-based medical doctor and lecturer – said his motivation stemmed from a long-standing passion for national service and community development. Beyond supporting the police, he highlighted his contributions to building mosques, providing water wells, and assisting the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF). “I don’t direct my support to individuals but towards initiatives that benefit communities,” he stressed, urging the public to invest in community-driven projects.

Delivering the keynote address, the Deputy Regional Commander Freetown-East, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Patrick Lahai Dumbuya, conveyed the Inspector General’s appreciation to Dr Macarthy. He underlined the IG’s commitment to community engagement, describing it as the cornerstone of effective policing. “When the police work hand-in-hand with the people, the burden becomes lighter and the outcomes more successful,” ACP Dumbuya said. He commended Dr Macarthy’s efforts as an example of international standards of community service and encouraged other Sierra Leoneans to emulate his example.
As part of the event, the Kissy Division Local Police Partnership Board (LPPB) honoured Dr Macarthy with a plaque, a picture frame, a commemorative T-shirt, and the title of Honorary Adviser. Community leaders, including Alhaji Algassimu Sesay – LPPB Regional Chairman for Freetown-East, Alhaji Nabieu Kajue (popularly known as Pinco) – SLPP Constituency 118 Chairman, Chief Alhaji Hassan Kamara, and Mammy Haja Turay, also praised his contributions.
The ceremony concluded with a symbolic ribbon-cutting at the entrance of the new I-Branch office.
