The Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) received a significant boost on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, as the Krishna Group of Companies donated essential cricket kits to the national cricket team, the Patriots of Sierra Leone. The donation ceremony was held at the Kadat Food and Beverages Conference Room in Grafton, Western Area Rural District Council (WARD-C).

In his welcome remarks, Oliver B. M. Somasa, General Manager of Kadat Food and Beverages, highlighted the Krishna Group’s dedication to national development. He expressed gratitude to the Government of Sierra Leone for fostering a conducive environment for investment and emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting youth-driven initiatives and sports development.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the company’s CEO, Mr. Arman Parwani shared his personal connection to cricket, describing it as a “religion” and a lifelong passion. He reassured the national cricket team of Krishna Group’s unwavering support and praised the players for their vigilance and commitment.

The kits, which included jerseys and other essential equipment, were formally handed over to the SLCA by the Board Chairman, Francis Trevor Samura, who expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the association and the players.

“This generous gesture from Krishna Group is not just a contribution but a testament to their commitment to cricket and youth empowerment in Sierra Leone. These quality kits will undoubtedly enhance the morale and performance of our players as they prepare for the ICC Men’s 2024 World Cup Africa Subregional Qualifier,” Mr. Samura remarked.

The qualifying tournament is scheduled to take place from November 21–29, 2024, in Abuja, Nigeria, where the Patriots aim to showcase their skills on the international stage.

Mr. Samura further elaborated on SLCA’s broader vision, including plans to develop grassroots cricket programs across schools and underserved communities. He revealed ongoing discussions with partners in India and the UK to strengthen domestic competitions and expand the sport’s reach in Sierra Leone.

“Cricket is steadily growing in Sierra Leone, attracting young talent eager to join the process. We need to create opportunities that will inspire and empower them to pursue their passion,” Mr. Samura stated, emphasizing the importance of sustained investment in sports infrastructure and youth development.

The donation marks another milestone in Krishna Group’s partnership with Sierra Leone’s sports sector, reflecting the positive impact of corporate social responsibility initiatives in the country.

As the Patriots gear up for their international campaign, the players expressed their determination to make Sierra Leone proud and acknowledged the importance of such support in achieving their goals.
