Freetown, Sierra Leone, Komba kaminty a labourer, Monday, 2th December 2024, made another appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No. 2 on two count charges ranging of Obtaining Money by False Pretence, contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, on a date unknown between February and April 2024 whilst in Brazil and through money transfer with intent to defraud, the accused obtained the sum of Five Thousand United States dollars ($5000), equivalent to One Hundred and Twenty Thousand Leones ( NLe 120,000) from Isatu Bangura through Mamoud Jalloh, both Sierra Leoneans based in the United States of America, by pretending that he will provide genuine visas and facilitate the movement of her, Yusuf Bangura, Fatmata Bangura and Bai Bangura from Sierra Leone to Brazil, knowing same to be false.
Count two further states that on the same date and place above with intent to defraud, the accused obtained the sum of Two Thousand United States dollars ($2,000) equivalent to forty-Eight Thousand Leones (Nle 48, 000) from Agnes Wotto through Christian Nicol, by falsely pretending that you will provide genuine visa and facilitate her movement from Sierra Leone to Brazil, knowing to be false.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused person, he pleaded not guilty.
The state prosecutor- Assistant Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, sought for short adjournment date as her witness was not present.
The representative of the defendant, C. Davies, applied for bail on behalf of the accused person that he is a Sierra Leonean resident and will not interfere with the prosecution witness. He added that if bail is granted, the accused will always arraign himself in court on every adjournment date.
Magistrate Bangura granted bail to the accused person in the sum of One Hundred and Eighty Thousand Leone(Le180,000) with two sureties who must be residents in Freetown and must be employed.
He furthered that they must have established business operations of not less than Le 100,000,00 each, and the bail must be approved by the master and Assistant Deputy Registrar.
The case has been adjourned to the 11th of December 2024,for further hearings.
